Whenever we play Spin-a-Play! a “brand new” theatrical “masterpiece” is improvised live on stage using a spin of our wheel of genres and suggestions from the audience.

Throughout the show, there are chances to decide how it starts, continues and even how it ends! Anything is possible when the audience have the power of choice.

Below are the complete records of all the plays we have created:

London, 1948 - Officer Jenkins is on his first missing-persons investigation since joining the police force at the ripe old age of 136. After a quick briefing in the art of interrogation, he heads over to the Tinkling Ivories farmhouse bar to speak to John, the barman/pianist with a dark secret and a penchant for strange accents in his asides. Meanwhile Rose is desperately trying to break into the music industry and has some plans of her own for how to do it fast. John goes to great lengths to demonstrate that his wife, Susan - the reportedly missing person - is “definitely alive” but his skittish demeanour (a lot of stretching and whistling) betrays his guilty secret and Jenkins moves in for the arrest. Cue a very handbrake-turn ending involving a crossdimensional cabaret club, a giant ferocious hamster, and every single member of the team - including the director - ending up on the floor and we got ourselves a noir, baby!

Sun 11th May 2025 - Squeak, Rotunda Theatre - Brighton Fringe
Main genre: Murder Mystery
Secondary genres:
Fairytales, Sitcom, Farce, Crime, Multi-roling, Paranormal.

It’s a lovely day in the fairytale kingdom. So lovely in fact that there are two separate hosts planning delightful dinner parties - but awkwardly the guests have all been invited to both of them. Luckily, King Nobbold the tyrant has a dastardly plan to deal with this uncomfortable faux pas - sending the leader of his guards over to the other party to sabotage it by poking their Battenbergs, humiliating everyone with cutting remarks, before maiming and knocking everyone out. Sadly for him, this action results in his subsequent murder, by an unknown assailant ostensibly in full view of everyone, but helpfully unseen because of a well-timed blackout - mystery preserved. Cue the arrival of every-single-media-detective-ever-all-at-once to try to get to the bottom of it all, with a list of suspects longer than we have actors to play them all, will he find the culprit? Yes. Yes he will. Well done Detective!

009 - Cats in Space!

Sat 10th May 2025 - Squeak, Rotunda Theatre - Brighton Fringe
Main genre: Sci-Fi
Secondary genres and styles:
Bollywood, Existentialism, YouTube Tutorial, Wordplay, Endurance Mime.

CrackerJack the cat is no good at catching mice. This would be alright, if it weren’t her literal job on the spaceship she lives on. She won’t let this get her down though, she’s determined to do better, whether that’s by watching dodgy YouTube tutorials or recruiting a robot assistant - later revealed to be a mouse in disguise - she’ll take everything in her stride. Unfortunately for her, the “everything” also includes a visit to a doddering Queen who is really rather good at being a chair; fending off the lecherous advances of a character who isn’t actually supposed to be in the play anymore; and finally meeting a rather frosty end via a series of explosive knockout gas charges… RIP.

(via Dealer’s Choice)
Secondary genres:
Whodunnit, Ballet, Silent Movie, Opera, Reality TV, Occult

1872, the Wild West: just five hours* wobble by three-legged horse away from Tombstone, Tucson, Oklahoma; a dusty town is being kept alive by an arms race of increasingly ridiculous breakfast recipes. Hapless Sheriff Boris Dougovitch, and dilligent Deputy Doris are putting their fairly empty heads together trying to frame someone for their own planned spot of good ol’ fashioned pig rustlin’ - if only they can find anyone, that is. Elsewhere, siblings Billy and Gilly have recently taken over an abandoned saloon, compensating for their lack of naming skills with a passionate dedication to glass-cleaning, high-tap-installing and menu-compiling. When an enigmatic foreign Breakfast Inspector rolls into town, he sets into motion a chain of events which includes slow-motion explosions, soul-harvesting side quests, a superfluous immediately-resolved cliffhanger, and enough hanging jokes (but thankfully no actual hangings) to fill a gallows gift shop. Lord only knows how this could possibly lead to our first ever good-natured ending to a play… Bingo!

Meanwhile, Bill and his much more capable criminal partner is planning a spectacular heist on the local chocolate factory, now owned by the mysterious figure known as Old Man Bucket. Simultaneously, two police officers are also making their way to the factory to conduct some investigations of their own. Soon the paths all intertwine and the true fate of Old Man Bucket is revealed - he had been locked away in the dungeons by the Oompa Loompas - and shock horror - it was Oompa Loompas behind all this anyway, masquerading as documentary crew members and police officers!

Thu 10th August 2023 - The Museum of Comedy, London, during Camden Fringe
Main genre: Period Drama
Secondary genres and styles:
Scandi-Noir, Greek Chorus, Rap Battle, Cartoon, Nature Documentary

1595, “Regency” England, the estate of Lord Cockburn (pronounced exactly how its spelled) is falling into disrepute - under the stewardship of his head Butler, Smithers, all of the horses are disappearing and no one knows how or why. Elsewhere, Mildred, a scullery maid - played by Maggie Smith - has delusions of grandeur and makes a pass for his Lordship and more specifically, his very particular birthmark. They get to know each other better on a lovely romantic carriage ride featuring some very charismatic trees and creatures. Meanwhile, across the sea, Bob and Janet, a couple of exiled farmers, make their way to Yorkshire - the latter, fueled by the passion of conquest in her heart, discovers she is in love with Lord Cockburn too. Soon the love triangle reaches a violent conclusion when Janet and Mildred/Maggie have a brutal faceoff inside the carriage leading to the death of the queen! Scandal indeed.

004 - My Cousin is a Princess and a Bitch

Wed 19th July 2023 - The Playwright, Nottingham
Main genre: Disney Teen Guff Film
Secondary genres:
Medieval Fantasy, Mime, Nature Documentary, Dance

A very small medieval kingdom is getting ready for Princess Beatrice’s 20th birthday party - her last day of being a teenager. She has to deal with checking the guest list, choosing a dress, providing catering for all the attendees and, later, worrying about whether or not Fred the Dragon is going to eat her! Fear not, via a lesson in Dragonology from David Attenborough, followed by some handy time-skipping magic, we get to see the party go off without a hitch (despite that egregious cow Dorothy attending…) and with use of a Lovely Dance, the dragon is vanquished, and leaves the kingdom in peace.

You can watch the Lovely Dance, here!

003 - The Taming of Widow Twanky

Thu 29th Jun 2023 - The Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich
Main genre: Shakespearian Pantomime
Secondary genres and styles:
Paranormal, Jazz, Mime, Greek Chorus, Soliloquy

The poor Widow Twanky has been working in her Launderette to distract from the grief of the passing of her husband several years prior. Unfortunately, an on-the-spot HR inspection (by an inspector NOT named Macbeth…) reveals some very critical shortcomings in her work. Soon after, we were introduced to the “Jazz Bush” and discovered it’s tragic backstory too, via a heartfelt soliloquy and a chorus of mimes. Things soon came to a head when it was discovered that a giant, played with gravitas by several iterations of Sean Connery impersonators, was interested in marrying Widow Twanky and saving her ailing business. All’s well that ends well, eh?

002 - The Man with the Golden Bun

Sat 13th May 2023 - The Hunter Club, Bury St Edmunds
Main genre: Ballet
Secondary genres:
Silent Movie, Hammer Horror, Shakespeare, Dramatic Monologue

This play charted the life and times of Dmitri Jones, an aspiring ballet auteur, working on his new masterpiece ‘The Magic Envelope’. We followed the development process from initial casting right through to the disastrous opening night, where the stage collapsed mid-performance. From there, Dmitri’s life took a Faustian turn as he (somehow) was doomed to an eternity of cruel tortures in hell in punishment for his crimes to the true art of ballet. Along the way though we were treated to a very lovely monologue from Dmitri, and a truly spellbinding, completely-silent excerpt of the ballet itself performed by its two principal dancers.

001 - He Touched Me There

Fri 14th April 2023 - The Fisher Theatre, Bungay
Main genre: Puppet Show
Secondary genres:
Ventriloquism, Courtroom Drama, Lord of the Rings

A courtroom in the mid 1990s, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are locked into a furious battle over who touch who - inappropriately or otherwise. Also featured a dream sequence on a desert island - never fully explained - and a surprise visit to The Shire with Gandalf and Gollum arguing over which puppets were which.
